Radiant Heating & Radiant Cooling

A New Concept in Air Conditioning

Thermo Comfort 101

A brief explanation on Radiant Energy!

"What exactly is radiant energy?" Hold your hand over a hot cup of coffee and feel the heat. The logical conclusion is that heat rises. Logical maybe, but incorrect! "HOT AIR" rises but "HEAT" can travel in any direction. That is why you can feel the heat of the cup when you place your hand to the side of it. Radiant Energy transfer is caused by a warm surface giving up its heat to a cooler surface.

Whenever there is a temperature difference between two surfaces, both surfaces will attempt to equalize. Radiant Energy travels through space without heating the space itself. It only turns into heat when it contacts a cooler surface. Our human comfort relies just as much on radiant heat transfer as it does on air temperature.

As a result, Americans are missing out on a truly comfortable living environment in their own homes or places of business. By controlling both the air temperature and the radiant transfer, the radiant ceiling panels delivers a comfort that is unsurpassed.

Oh by the way, you save Energy as well!

Residential

KaRo Capillary Tubes is also used in new construction as well as renovations.

The Karo Capillary Tubes offers flexibility to mount between ceiling joists, existing plaster or drywall ceiling!

Down below are the capillary tubes being installed in a residential application.

Down below the KaRo Capillary Tubes are in installed on the existing drywall ceiling ready for plaster.

Loss of height:

Foil-back insulation=1/4" (6mm)

 Capillary tubes=1/16" (2mm)

       Drywall=5/8" (17mm)

Loss of total height=15/16" (25mm)

 Nearly one inch!

Dew Point Sensors:

Dew point is monitored at the coldest point of the room on the cooled ceiling.

If the dew point is reached, the cooling is reduced, either by closing the control valves, switching off the pump, or raising the the supply water temperature.

Image below is residential project notice the small duct systems (DOAS) Dedicated Outdoor Air System is located strategically to give its Radiant cooling its optimal performance.

Image below is the finish product of capillary tubes embedded behind the Gypsum drywall or Plaster which has thermal effectiveness of over 98%, this means that if a layer of water were underneath the drywall or plaster instead of the capillary tubes, (a construction impossibility) it could only be less than 2% more effective.

The Benefits!

Save Energy!                                    Smaller more efficient chiller

Indoor Air Quality!                             Not paying for over ventilating

Zoning Capabilities!                           Utility room requires less space

Piping is not Insulated                       Testing & balancing made simpler

Integration fire suppression                 Reduced maintenance & operating cost
